Dogs that can walk well on a loose leash, do not pull on their leashes, do not lunge and jump up on people, and do not bark are welcome to walk with som|dog.
- Each walker may walk one dog. No more than one dog per person.
- All dogs must be licensed and up-to-date on vaccinations.
- All dogs must be on a leash no longer than six feet (per Somerville leash law).
- Do not allow your dog to greet any spectator unless that person has asked to greet your dog.
- Each walker is responsible for providing adequate water for her or his dog (as well as for her or himself!).
- Each walker is responsible for cleaning up after her or his dog.
Recommended Dress Code:
- For an image of group cohesiveness, please wear black pants and a black or white shirt.
- Optional: Black som|dog t-shirts are available for $15.00 each. Contact som|dog if you would like to make arrangements to purchase a t-shirt: somdog@somervilledog.com.
- Optional: Walkers are encouraged to dress their dogs in the colors of the American flag!
If you and your partner cannot decide who gets to walk the dog in the parade, consider the following:
- Walkers without dogs are needed to take turns carrying the som|dog banner.
- Walkers without dogs are needed to take turns pulling the Waggin' Wagon, filled with extra water for the dogs and the walkers.
Suggested Donation: Walkers are encouraged to donate $5 to the City of Somerville's Memorial Day Fund. Troop leaders will collect donations at the meeting locations on Parade Day.
