Parade salutes servicemen and women
The Somerville Dog Owners Group is proud to have had the opportunity again this year to publicly remember the men and women who have given their lives in the service of our country.
This year, fourteen people and eight dogs started the parade with us in front of City Hall. We picked up another inter-species couple between Central Street and Lowell Street, and a man, his daughter and their dog joined us for a few blocks near Davis Square.
It was a beatiful day for a parade. The clear skies, however, meant that the asphalt along the parade route heated up. Despite our towing extra water in the "waggin wagon," it was an uncomfortable walk for our bare-footed companions. At Davis Square we removed our dogs from the parade, and members carried our banner the remainder of the route. Next year we'll need to arrange for reinforcements to join our ranks at Davis Square!
The Somerville Dog Owners Group wishes everyone a safe and peaceful Memorial Day.
