Summary of som|dog meeting - January 29, 2007
Eleven Somerville dog owners (including members of the board, Michele Biscoe, Steven Roix and Jessica Wong) attended the meeting representing Wards One, Two, Three, Four and Six. The potluck dinner featured a Middle Eastern style platter, cheese and sausage, Chinese dumplings and birthday cake (we celebrated the birthdays of Steve and of both, Kirk, a Somerville dog (in absentia) and his owner)!
Dog owners shared updates about the following open spaces and parks:
- Zero New Washington Street (Ward 1)
- Perry Park (Ward 2)
- Bailey Park (Ward 3)
- Prospect Hill Park (Ward 3)
- Nunziato Off-Leash Recrational Area (Ward 3)
- Massachusetts Water Resources Authority Water Treatment plant off East Albion Street (Ward 4)
- Grimmons Park (Ward 4)
- Community Path (Wards 5 and 6)
- Nathan Tufts Park, a.k.a. Powder House Park (Ward 6)
- Hodgkins/Curtin Park (Ward 7)
We discussed the role of "Ward Coordinator" in the interest of improving outreach and civic involvement in our neighborhoods.
Lisa McFarren, Co-Chair of the Partners in Parks Working Group Making Parks More Welcoming to Dog Onwers, announced that a Partners in Parks Conference is being planned for June 2007.
