"Dog Owners are Conway Park's Best Friend"
Friends of Somerville dogs who appreciate open space in the City filled over forty trash bags at the Conway Park Clean-Up sponsored by som|dog, the Somerville Dog Owners Group.
Eighteen volunteers and an employee from the Somerville Department of Public Works donned work gloves and took up brooms and rakes on a lovely November afternoon. Some of the more interesting items that we removed from Conway Park were a section of the molded felt interior of a car, half of a glass doorknob, and a single caster.
We also reported to the DPW the following maintenance concerns: a broken branch on one of the small trees near the water-play area, and, in the parking area, a bent signpost on a handicapped parking sign, another signpost--again for a handicapped parking space--that is out of the ground completely and leaning against a tree, and an upside-down "Do Not Enter" sign.
At the som|dog Conway Park Clean-Up, responsible dog owners got the opportunity to show our appreciation for a great neighborhood park while promoting public health and public safety in Somerville's open spaces.
We would like express our gratitude to Ward Two Alderman, Maryann Heuston, and Alderman-at-Large, William White, for their participation in the Clean-Up and their support of mixed-use options for open space that meet the diverse needs of Somerville residents. We would also like to specially thank the local businesses that supported our Conway Park Clean-up:
- Caesar's Pizza and Subs
401 Somerville Avenue
Sherman Cafe
257 Washington Street
Star Market
275 Beacon Street
Thank you all for making our Conway Park Clean-Up a success!
