A treat for neighbors and dog owners
The City of Somerville hosted the grand opening of its first off-leash recreational area in Nunziato Field on Sunday, April 9, 2005.
Somerville dogs, big and small, got to enjoy canine company...
...while their human companions enjoyed meeting friends and neighbors in a Somerville city park.
Refreshments were provided by the City of Somerville. Somerville pet boutiques, Fi-dough (70E Beacon Street) and Pet Spa (669 Somerville Avenue), donated treats, and Polka Dog Bakery (256 Shawmut Avenue, Boston), in the South End, donated a cake for dogs in the shape of a dog bone. The Somerville Dog Owners Group gave out plush dog bones, donated by Planet Dog, in Portland, ME. Members of the New England Dog Training Club shared information about their classes. (Thank you all who helped out at the Grand Opening!) The Somerville City Clerk's Office issued thirty-three dog licenses (a current dog license is required for entry into Somerville's first off-leash recreational area).
